Basic Training Overhaul

I ran across an interesting piece about an update to Army Basic Combat Training. Apparently it’s being updated to more accurately reflect the difficulties that soldiers are facing every day in Iraq and Afghanistan. Additions include urban combat training, IEDs (improvised explosive devices), and convoy tactics. Full story here.

I’m interested to see if I encounter any of that new training when I start BCT next week in Georgia. They say it won’t be instituted until spring, but since my training extends until May, I think there’s probably a good chance I see some. I’ll let you know when I get back.
