So I’m switching blog setups. Again. Part of the reason I haven’t been blogging is the rather clumsy and blocky blog system from Blog Engine Dot Net. I’m sure that the newer versions are better, but there is no way to upgrade and set permissions on the server without playing email tag with my host. So in other words my options are limited. Blog Engine Dot Net has very few templates available (I’m tired of designing my own websites), and their back end system is rather clumsy. Every time I switch between standard and html view it eats all my code forcing me to either keep text file backups or go to my website and view source to copy and paste it. So, after experimenting with WordPress over at Lumberjack Water Sports and my other experimental blog called School Stupidity I’ve come to the conclusion that its a pretty good setup with great ease of use and a ton of available features. Hopefully this will be the last major change (other than the layout, I’m not totally sold on this one) for quite a while. Now I just have to figure out how to insert all the old records into the new database. There are hundreds to add going all the way back to the year 2001 (yes I’ve been blogging for a decade, call me old school). Unfortunately some of the clumsiness I hated in Blog Engine Dot Net (it likes to eat html, css, any coding) is making the transfer of posts slow and difficult. When will I be done? I have no idea. Hopefully this one will work better than the last one.
Let me know what you think of the above photo. A buddy took it while we were still in Kuwait waiting to drop into Iraq. I was chilling on a concrete bunker after chow watching the sunset over the desert.
